Spotlight On… Workkit

In our ‘Spotlight On’ series, we’re showcasing the many things Woodingdean has to offer, through profiles of local business owners.
This week, we speak to Debbie from Workkit, a new shop selling embroidered t-shirts, work-wear and uniforms.

**Note – Workkit has now moved out of Woodingdean**
This shop has been twelve years in the making. I’ve been working in embroidery ever since I bought my first machine in 2002. I worked from home, bought a second machine, before spending six years based in Hove with four machines. Now I’ve finally taken the plunge with my very own premises, split into a workshop with a state-of-the-art machine at the back and a shop at the front.
If you want it, I can embroider it! I specialise in embroidering logos and business names on clothing and uniforms.  You can bring an item to me to embroider, or I can save you the hassle and provide the t-shirts or uniform you need as well. I hold a range of sample items in a rainbow of colours in my shop, so that you can pick exactly what you want before placing an order. I also offer heat press printing. Although I tend to make big runs (300+ t-shirts etc.), I can also do one-off items if people would like them.

I’ve already had orders from lots of local businesses. Dovetail, Completely Carpets, SussexBlinds have all ordered embroidered uniforms and we’re planning on working with some of the other shops on Warren Road very soon.  I’m also making the uniforms for Woodingdean Primary, which is great as it was mine and my children’s’ school growing up!
Setting up Workkit has been a lot of fun. I’ve done loads of research and I’ve been working really hard to get the shop up and running. Soon I’ll have a website with a full catalogue that people will be able to buy from. Eventually, I’d really like to take on somebody and train them up to use the machines so I can focus more on the admin and marketing side of the business.

I was born and bred in Woodingdean! I grew up and raised my kids here. It’s a fantastic area and I’m so happy to be opening my own business here. I love the fact that everybody knows each other and I have so many great memories of the town. It’s got much bigger in my lifetime and it’s lovely to see so many quality shops doing well here.

Workkit is at 80 Warren Road. Drop in, or call them on 01273 696979 or email:sales@work-kits.co.uk
