Please be advised of a recent report of a shed break in the Woodingdean area. It is believed that the offence occurred between the afternoon on the 15th - mid morning on the 16th December

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is talking to residents to try and identify those responsible. Please call us on 101 if you saw anything suspicious

To decrease the risk of your shed being broken into, please follow the advice below;

Garages and sheds are often full of expensive tools, which are ideal for breaking into the rest of the house
Never leave a garage or garden shed unlocked, especially if it has a connecting door to the house
Fit strong padlocks to shed and garage doors and make sure that the doors are solid enough not to be kicked in
Lock ladders inside your garage or shed to stop a thief using them to reach upstairs windows (if there is no room, chain them to a sturdy bracket on the outside wall)
Visibly and permanently mark property you keep in sheds and garages
Please report any suspicious behaviour to Sussex Police, 999 in an emergency or 101 non emergency.

The police have also told us to beware of telephone scammers - their message is below

Beware telephone scammers active in Brighton & Hove. Last night a 94 year old man in Brighton was tricked into handing over his credit card and PIN number to a taxi courier after being called by a fraudster claiming to be a London police officer.

The REAL police will not ask you for your PIN over the telephone. Do not divulge this information over the telephone.

Please pass on this advice to anyone you know, especially if they are elderly or easily confused.

Kind regards,

East Brighton Neighbourhood Policing Team
