The Neighbourhood Watch - Businesses
The neighbourhood watch for Woodingdean has been set up
Since coming to the UK in the early eighties, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) and Home Watch have evolved into wider regional associations and, finally, a coordinated national network. The aim of the Neighbourhood Watch and Home Watch movement is to bring neighbours together to create strong, friendly, active communities where crime and anti-social behaviour are less likely to happen.
Now we have the neighbourhood watch set up in Woodingdean. It is a method of developing close liaison between households and businesses in the neighbourhood, with the local police. The aims are to help the people of Woodingdean protect each other, themselves and their properties. This is to reduce the fear of crime by means of improved security, together with greater vigilance, fast and accurate reporting of suspicious incidents to the police, and by fostering a community spirit.
As the NHW start-up costs are so high, and a visible presence so essential, businesses are asked to pledge £20.00 each to help towards the funding of street signs, with a donation of £20.00 each. This money is needed for signage at the intersections in the village, meaning any vehicle entering the village will immediately be warned of the new NHW scheme operating for all of us in the village.
Letters have been delivered to all businesses in Woodingdean by the NHW and are now looking for donations of £20.00 each from the businesses. The methods of payment details are enclosed with the letter.
We all want to live in a safe and secure frame of mind, helping our friends, neighbours and businesses work and live together in security and the knowledge that someone is looking out for them.
