Give Blood in Woodingdean for World Blood Donor Day

On Friday 14 June blood donors across the globe will be celebrated on World Blood Donor Day.

National Blood Week will take place between Monday 10 June and Sunday 16 June this year and World Blood Donor Day recognises the birthday of Dr Karl Landsteiner who discovered the ABO blood group in 1901.

Donating blood is as important as ever! In England and North Wales alone 7,000 units of blood is needed every day, and it is vital that NHS Blood and Transplant collects enough blood for each of the blood groups to help increase survival rates.

John Canning is the Lead Donor Relations Manager for NHS Blood and Transplant for the South East. He said

*“During this year’s National Blood Week, we are hoping to encourage people in Sussex and Surrey who have never given blood before to commit to give blood for the first time and to remind those who have not given for some time, to come back and donate.

“Please come and help us to provide the blood that hospitals and their patients need. A donor saves and improves lives every time they donate – and you could too!”*

If you are aged between 17-65, and weigh more than 50 kg (7st 12lbs) and are in general good health, you could start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.

You can give blood in Woodingdean on Thursday 30 May at Woodingdean Primary School on Warren Road, BN2 6BA between 14:00 - 16:30 and 17:30 - 20:00.

Or at Brighton Racecourse on Thursday 27 June between 14:00 - 16:30 and 17:30 - 20:00.
