Drove Road Byway surface upgrade in Woodingdean

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, were recently awarded Department for Transport funding for Drove road

This funding is specifically to improve the surface at Drove Road Byway between Warren Road and Falmer Road, Woodingdean. This section of Drove road can be very difficult for people to use during the winter months particularly where surface water collects and can make some sections of the route very challenging to pass.

This section of the Drove road was first highlighted as a priority for improvement in the Rights of Way Improvement Plan in 2007. The principle aim being to: 'Develop and promote the access network to support and encourage healthy exercise for all'.

Given the known history of the area and some of the issues raised by residents in previous years, there will also be restricted access within the controls of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) applicable to Drove Road. In principle this will adhere to the conditions of the TRO which restrict vehicular use to Pedal Cycles, Permitted vehicles (Farm traffic only) and Horse drawn vehicles. Emergency vehicles may be permitted only if completely necessary.

The works are scheduled to start from Monday 23 March 2015 for a period of 5 months and a display board showing the section of Drove road and planned timescales for resurfacing will be displayed in Woodingdean Library from Saturday 21 March 2015.

The work is to be carried out by RJ Dance Contractors LTD.
