The Woodingdean well is located just outside the Nuffield Hospital on Warren Road, Woodingdean, Brighton BN2 6DX. <\/h4>The well stands around 1m high and has a flint and brick wall around it as well as a white safety \u2018cap\u2019 to prevent people or things falling down it.\n\n\"woodingdean-well--nuffield-hospital-warren-road\"<\/a>\n\n<\/span>\n\nThe Woodingdean well was originally dug to provide water for a workhouse at the top of Elm Grove and a \u2018school for juveniles at Warren Farm\u2019. The well is 390m (1285m) deep and is little more than a meter wide<\/strong>. In true Dickensian style the well was hand dug by members of the local workhouse and was apparently carried out for 24 hours with candlelight as the only source of light. It took four years to dig the well. Work commenced in March 1858\n
