I first picked up a camera at the age of 18. <\/b>I discovered that I couldn\u2019t draw well enough for art A-Level so I went looking for an alternative. We had a great dark room at school and after a bit of pestering I convinced a classmate to show me the ropes. I haven\u2019t looked back since. Photography has changed a lot since then. At college we almost always shot on film; there was just one very expensive digital camera which people were scared to touch! It\u2019s amazing how much things have moved on. There are lots of benefits to digital photography, but film definitely requires the most skill.<\/div>\n

I\u2019d rather take photos of dancers than David Cameron \u2013 and I\u2019ve done both! <\/b>Things like corporate and PR photography are a great way to earn money and I\u2019m grateful for all the business I get, but my real interest lies in dance and performance sport photography. Motion makes for fantastic photos, and I get a real buzz from capturing exciting movement and positions. I\u2019ve worked at big dance competitions like the XXL Street Dance Championships. If I had to give a budding photographer advice, it would be to specialise early and carve your own niche. Then to just keep going! Photography can be a hard industry to get into, but it\u2019s well worth pursuing.<\/div>\n

Good photography is a lot about ideas. <\/b>My favourite photos are the ones I took of performers in an explosion of powder paint. That was a project which I created from scratch to include in my portfolio. I love the creative process of coming up with a good idea, planning its execution and then actually taking the photo. Those sorts of projects really allow you to show your individuality and creativity \u2013 they get you noticed, and persuade people that you\u2019re the best person to take their photos, whether it\u2019s for portraits, performers\u2019 headshots or weddings.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The best thing about my job is that it\u2019s always different; <\/b>I get to see places and meet people that I would never normally be able to; for example, I have worked at Buckingham Palace several times and have photographed Prime ministers in their Parliamentary and Downing Street Offices. I also find myself doing things I never expected! A couple of days ago I was at Beachy Head, clambering over rocks at low tide with all my equipment to reach the lighthouse for a shoot for the British Mint. It\u2019s this variety that makes photography such an interesting profession. On the flipside, the hard part is the same as any other small business \u2013 having to manage accounts, coding my website, admin. Being your own boss basically! The editing process can also take a lot of time \u2013 for every hour I spend behind the camera, I match it in the studio.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u2019m on the lookout for new models! <\/b>I have two projects in the pipeline, an exhibition of portraits and profiles of WWI veterans in time for the 70th<\/sup> VE Day anniversary next year, and a series called \u2018Body Beautiful\u2019, featuring nude photos of normal people who are 100% confident and happy with their bodies the way they are. I\u2019m looking for people to take part in either project, so please get in touch if you\u2019re interested!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
